The Lord Draws Near
The Lord draws near to those who draw near to Him. (James 4:8) And when the Lord draws near to us we experience the revival His presence brings. The question is, how do we draw near to God? The answer is found in the context of James 4:8.
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Lament and mourn and weep! Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. James 4:7-10
As we find a place of humility before Him the Lord draws near. The basis of such humility is seeing our sinfulness before our holy God and being honest and open about it with him and with our brothers and sisters in Christ. The Spirit of God is attracted to broken and humble people. He is grieved and repelled by our pride.
“The Holy Spirit will not come to stubborn people; ask Him to bend you.” Evan Roberts, greatly used in the Welsh Revival of 1904 God is working in the midst of our church family not only on Sunday mornings but during our home prayer meetings conducted each night during January. Lord, help us find a place of humility before You that You might draw near with Your holy presence.
