A Made Up Mind
If you have not already made up your mind that you will follow Christ no matter what; if you have not determined in advance that you will do what is right then when temptation comes you will be ill prepared to say no.
You have to have a made up mind.
We’re all determined about something. May it be that we are determined to serve the Lord.
If we have not made up our mind then we lack resolve. We are half-hearted about the Christian life. We’re deciding as we go whether or not we will do the right thing. Self rules. Curiosity about what this world can offer me is king. And sure enough, we make choices to compromise with sin and see what that sensual girl or that drug party or that skin flick can do for us.
Without a made up mind we are planning to sin.
I don’t want to burst your bubble but you are not even close to having the wisdom to know what to do in all situations. If you continue to lean on your own understanding you are pushing God’s Spirit aside. “I can handle it,” you’re saying.
You’ve got to have a made up mind.
It was Joshua who asked the people of his day how long they were going to vacillate between two opinions. He told them that if the Lord is God then serve Him. If He’s not then don’t serve Him. But for heaven sakes, don’t let your heart and mind hang somewhere in between.
You’ve got to have a made up mind.
James calls it being a “double-minded mind” and says that such a person is unstable in all their ways. You can trace your instability spiritually, your up and down life, your tendency to conform to this world to double-mindedness.
You’ve got to have a made up mind.
Such resolve comes when we have surrendered our hearts fully to the Lord our God and such surrender comes when we have found our way to the foot of the cross of Christ and received the revelation of who He is and what He did for us. It is His love that melts our hearts and opens our eyes to what is truly important. It is in His presence we begin to see life clearly.
I have decided to follow Jesus. No turning back, no turning back.
May God help us to have a made up mind.
