Possessing the Land

Joshua led the people of Israel into the Promised Land. They experienced conquest and victory during the golden years of Israel’s history. It is an amazing account of the faithfulness of God to His people.

“So the Lord gave to Israel the land of which He had swore to give to their fathers and they took possession of it and dwelt in it. The Lord gave them rest all around according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand. Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All cam to pass.” Joshua 21:43-45

God’s promises were all fulfilled! The people had believed God and obeyed Him fully. The same is true today. God has not changed. He will still faithfully give to His people all that He has promised and He will do everything that He says He will do. It is ours if we trust and obey.

Earlier, Joshua had to tell some of the Israelites they had failed to possess what God had given them.

Then Joshua said to the children of Israel; "How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?” Joshua 18:3

As I read this I thought, “I wonder how many believers there are today who have failed to possess their possessions?” I’m afraid the number would be very high. While we clamor after the things of the world and attempt to find life in those things that satisfy not the riches of our inheritance awaits us. It is ours for the possessing. Peter tells us that God has given us everything that pertains to life and godliness. And Jesus spoke of “the true riches” that God will give to those who seek Him and His righteousness and the things of His kingdom.

I pray that we all will look to the Lord and seek Him in these evil days. In the midst of all the turmoil in our world God is doing a great work and He wants you and I to be part of it. Seek Him today and do not fail to possess all that He has for you.
