The Evil Day Has Come
June 26th, 2013, a date that will live in infamy.
Reminiscent of the Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade decision which struck a blow against the sanctity of human life last Wednesday’s Supreme Court decision declaring the Defense of Marriage Act unconstitutional struck a blow against the sanctity of marriage.
For years we’ve heard the warnings about an evil day that is coming upon America and the world. That day has come. How will the church of Jesus Christ respond?
The apostle Paul’s concern for the believers at Ephesus was that they stand firm and immovable in their steadfast position in Christ when the flood of evil came upon them . “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm” (vs. 13) NLT.
If I could I would make a professional video about this verse. The scene would open with a believer standing in the midst of an all out attack. The air is filled with the noise of exploding bombs, buildings collapsing and the air is blackened by massive amounts of dirt and debris. Then stillness comes...the attack ends...the dust filled air clears...and you see the believer still standing firm for Christ! The underlying reality is obvious—only by God’s miraculous power could one remain standing under such circumstances.
This is more relevant now than ever before for our generation. “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.”
The day of evil is characterized by spiritual deception accelerating at a rapid pace, rushing toward the time Jesus warned of when He said, “False christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect” (Matthew 24:24). This day will be filled with religious people proclaiming an evil message labeled as tolerance and love. And those who stand against evil will be vilified
“Our courts oppose the righteous, and justice is nowhere to be found. Truth stumbles in the streets, and honesty has been outlawed. Yes, truth is gone, and anyone who renounces evil is attacked.” Isaiah 59:14-15 NLT
The man of sin is coming and when he is revealed the world will say, “You’re the one we’ve been waiting for.”
It will be as Jesus warned. “I have come in my Father’s name, and you do not accept me; but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him” (John 5:43)
The day of evil is leaving much spiritual destruction in its wake. The desire to just “get along” is replacing unity based on truth. The worldly idea of “being nice” is replacing the doctrine of “being holy.”
The evil day has come.
However, this is not a time for despair. God is still on the throne of the universe. He is still doing His great work. We can confidently move forward knowing that He is faithful and will always bless His word. Our great need as Christ followers is to remain steadfast in our commitment to God and His word.
Stand strong. Don’t move. Be steadfast. Have courage. And remember, the Lord our God is with us wherever we go.
