Are You Listening To Me! "Be careful that you do not refuse to listen to the One who is speaking". Hebrews 12:25
I guess just about any married man knows what it means to hear his wife ask, “Are you listening to me?” Many of us also know what it means to assure her that we are...only to fail in repeating what she just said! We heard the words but we weren’t listening. No one likes to be ignored. That includes God. As His followers we can hear His words without truly listening. The proof is found in our lack of obedience to what He has said. Hebrews 12:25 describes this very clearly. “See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven.” “They” in the verse refers to the Israelites at Mount Sanai. When God gave the Law to the through Moses they promised to hear and obey all that God had said. But they did anything but that! And they did not escape God’s judgment. Their carcasses fell in the wilderness. The passages describes “not listening” to God. It is refusing Him, a conscious decision to not truly listen. It is turning away from Him, a conscious decision to choose to set aside His instructions. How many sermons have we heard? If we believe what the Bible says then God speaks through the preached word. So, how many sermons have you heard but did not listen to? The evidence of not listening is in your failure to do what the Lord said in His word. I can almost hear God saying, “Are you listening to Me?” All of us, including myself, have been guilty of hearing from God but failing to listen and obey. Join me in praying that we will not refuse Him who speaks! He is God...our Father...our Lord. “Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us enough to speak to us. Help us to take to heart all that You say and give us the grace to obey. In Jesus’ name. Amen.” Pastor Dan
